DJ Troubleman On The Supremes!
Destiny's Child's may have sold more "music", but if you count records, CD's, tapes and downloads, no other female singing group has sold more than The Supremes.
Originally called The Primettes they sang with Paul Williams and Eddie Kendrick (the two would go on to sing with The Temptations.)
The group hit their stride as The Supremes with Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson and became Motown's premiere group.
The Supremes lead the Motown music machine that was the only thing that challenged The Beatles and the rest of "The British Invasion" of the 1960's.
The Supremes have tons of hits (including Come See About Me) but I am always proud of the fact that they did challenge The Beatles on the charts and when The Supremes landed in England, they were as big across the pond as John, Paul, Ringo and George were here in the states.
Take the whole family to see "Come See About Me" at The African American Museum in Philly and be proud of a story that is American History (and glamorous and all those other "girly" things.)
