Wizard World Philly: Interview with Doug Sneyd

IMPRESSIVE CURVES
Raymond Tyler talks with PlayBoy Illustrator Doug Sneyd at Philly Comic Con.
You should make your way to Comic Con this weekend and meet Mr. Sneyd and purchase some one of a kind art. To see more visit his website www.dougSneyd.com

2013 Marks the 49th year that Doug Sneyd has been a contributing illustrator for Play Boy Magazine. When I was in art school he was one of the artists I studied. His work inspired me to want to work for Play Boy. While I am still working my way to the grotto via my art strokes, Sneyd's work still inspires my art today.

I was greatly surprised while walking through the comic con hall when I saw Sneyd's table. I am thankful for the few moments he shared with me.

I encourage artists/writers of all ages and skill levels to go out to Wizard World this weekend and meet Mr. Sneyd.

During the 1960's The Supremes performed on every major stage from Philadelphia to AC and in between.

Ms. Whaley discusses the collection of gowns and Motown artifacts currently on exhibit from Supreme member Mary Wilson's personal collection.

DJ Troubleman On The Supremes!

Destiny's Child's may have sold more "music", but if you count records, CD's, tapes and downloads, no other female singing group has sold more than The Supremes.

Originally called The Primettes they sang with Paul Williams and Eddie Kendrick (the two would go on to sing with The Temptations.)

The group hit their stride as The Supremes with Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson and became Motown's premiere group.

The Supremes lead the Motown music machine that was the only thing that challenged The Beatles and the rest of "The British Invasion" of the 1960's.

The Supremes have tons of hits (including Come See About Me) but I am always proud of the fact that they did challenge The Beatles on the charts and when The Supremes landed in England, they were as big across the pond as John, Paul, Ringo and George were here in the states.

Take the whole family to see "Come See About Me" at The African American Museum in Philly and be proud of a story that is American History (and glamorous and all those other "girly" things.)

A Man Cave Sports Report:Could Dwight Howard Save The Sixers?

To Say That The Kobe/Dwight Experiment was a “FAIL” is like saying The Titanic was a “boating incident.” So while The Lakers are saying “Howard will return” the drama/side show that is the Howard Show is already starting with reports that Howard will again go shopping for another team. It’s a safe bet that Howard could improve the Sixers and get them to the play offs. Here are 5 questions that are not so crystal clear, but should be discussed if Dwight Howard were to come to Philly.

5. Would the Sixers get past the first round? Dwight could not by himself get The Lakers past the first round. And even with Kobe and Steve Nash the team placed no higher than 8th in the west. To his defense no one else has been able to slow down San Antonio yet.

4. Can He Get Some Help? Again with all the pieces LA has they struggled to make the play offs. Who, already in Sixer Blue can help Dwight?
After paying Dwight more money than the budget of The Philadelphia Public School System will there be money for any one else on the team except Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Tito?

3.Haven’t We Learned Our Bynum Lesson? Only the psychiatric team at Jefferson should really be interested seeing Howard after a year of Bynum and his hair.

2. Is Dwight Howard Healthy? Howard’s lack of passion and success was blamed on his injury. Will Dwight Howard ever be Moses Malone or are we looking at Clem Johnson at best?

1.Who Will Coach Dwight? Dwight could not get along with Stan Van Gundy one of the best coaches of the last few years. So where are you going to find another coach willing to be thrown under the bus for an 82 game season?

COACH CURTIS-

FURIOUS 5 Questions with J. Simone Before Her First Comic Con

WILD MANNERED REPORTER....
(J. Simone with her twin in paint.)

As we've been telling you The Philadelphia Comic Con aka Wizard World Philly is coming next Thursday May 31st, to The Convention Center.

To get your tickets go to

The Voice Of Philadelphia has been lucky enough to get poet/writer J. Simone to cover this event from her perspective.

We wanted a fresh perspective so we caught up with J. to do a little preview/interview.

We also wanted to de-fuse the stereo type that only nerds with no style enjoy sci-fi and comic books.

J. is one of the sexiest women alive and you would be more likely to see her at the comic book store than dropping it like it hot in the night club.
(Okay I made that last sentence up.)

Raymond Tyler offers 5 Furious Questions.
J. Simone Offers 5 Futuristic Answers.

Is This Your First Comic Con?

J) Yes. I've been wanting to go for years!

You are very sexy. What turns you on or off about sci-fi nerds?

J)   Sci-fi guys & I have a lot in common, plus they are usually more imaginative & creative.

Besides what you will be wearing to the con. What other characters would you like to dress up as?

J)I'd dress up as almost any character! First I LOVE dressing up, secondly, they all have different attitudes. Wonder Woman, Phoenix, Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Velma, Lara Croft.

What are you looking forward to seeing or doing at your first comic con?

J)The Serenity cast. I loved that movie & Firefly, of course. Stan Lee, Walking Dead cast, Wil Wheaton, Patrick Stewart. John Cena is NY, but I'm sad he is already sold out
I wish the Big Bang Theory cast, or better yet, the writers were going to be there.
Lastly, what sci-fi/ comic movies or TV shows do you follow?
I like animated movies, DOOM, Superman vs The Elite, Red Hood, to name a few recent movies. Young Justice, Justice League, Walking Dead, Star Trek, etc.
Look for the beautiful J. Simone in her secret identity at next week's comic con.

J.Simone will be a special guest on The Voice Of Philadelphia radio show this Monday at 8pm.

A Man Cave Report: Sergio Garcia Makes STUPID Remarks About Tiger Woods

NOT A CHICKEN JOKE
words By Raymond Tyler

So on a day where I wanted to hear the gossip about what Phil Jackson was dishing about Shaq, and Kobe and Michael Jordan, I hear that yet another bigoted slur was hurled at Tiger Woods.

According to what was reported....Sergio Garcia who has been feuding with Tiger Woods (but never really beat him) decided to make a comment about Wood's "serving fried chicken."

Now Garcia is in all kinds of hot water.

Realistically I never really pay much attention to these "scandals" because they will have little effect on Tiger, who will continue to improve and go back to kicking every one's butt.

The real problem is for people like myself that are working their way up the latter to gain respect.

For example. I am always looking for a great place to do promotional events for our radio shows.

A. I have more than 5 years of experience as a writer for The Source, Vibe, Philadelphia Weekly and AC Weekly.

B. I have more than 10 years of experience throwing top shelf, successful and smart events at libraries, The House Of Blues, and even on The AC Boardwalk.

C. I currently produce 3 successful radio shows on broadcast radio.

D. I also have various charity events.

So why when I approach people that run venues do they treat me like I ask them about hosting "knife fights" at their places? ( I really feel I should name some of the places that in my opinion hire low life people with small dense minds but I won't.)

You know why they feel okay to treat me with such dis respect to my face, despite my voice in the media?
It is STILL okay to write off "the black guy." To assume that because I am black I think I;m the next Russell Simmons. Even when the venue people return your phone calls they speak to you like you are 50 Cent and not a man that has been doing business for close to a decade.  And many times if you do use their venue they ask you 5000 questions and maybe 3 are intelligent.

My Point?

My point is...that Sergio talking about Tiger serving fried chicken is only a little sample we heard slip out about a guy that really has the money and power to start his own golf club tour and no longer needs the PGA.

I am sure that for those of us that are successful people of color, the fried chicken remarks stick a lot longer and hurt more than our feelings they actually reflect upon how much harder we have to work in our careers and at our places of employment.

If you ask us, I am sure we would say Sergio was speaking for a larger part of America than just "people Tiger beat on the PGA."

                                                  WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

Monday Tune into The Man Cave Report during The Voice Of Philadelphia on AM 1360 WNJC.
You can listen online outside of Philly, Jersey and Delaware at www.WNJC1360.com.
You can call in at 856-227-1360

Raymond Tyler and T Soul will be talking about Tiger and Sergio.
